Group Visits and Field Trips

The Pauli Murray Center is pleased to offer private group tours and field trips for book clubs, family reunions, church groups, corporations, and other community organizations. Private tours are available on any date/time that is mutually agreed upon by your group and the Pauli Murray Center with at least 2 weeks advanced notice. Reservations are subject to staff availability.

How it Works

  • Submit our request form here at least 2 weeks before your requested tour date

  • A member of our staff will reach out to you via email and share an invoice to finalize your reservation.

  • Deposits for private tours must be paid within 7 days of receipt

  • Please note that no tour confirmations will be offered over the phone

FAQs

  • Group visits are coordinated based on the availability of our space, your groups needs, and staff availability. We can accommodate almost any date/time except Wednesdays before 1 PM or Saturdays before 3 PM.

  • Generally, we can accommodate up to 35 adults for our standard guided private tours. For groups of 36 - 50, we can offer a semi-guided tour or splitting your group up into multiple rotations. If your group has between 51 - 100 people, we offer a combination of indoor and outdoor activities facilitated by multiple staff members.

  • Unfortunately, we are currently unable to accommodate K - 12 field trips while we navigate staff transition. We hope to welcome K - 12 groups to the Pauli Murray Center again by the spring of 2027.

  • Our guided tours last for 75-90 minutes, depending on how many questions your group members have for our guide. Please let us know if there are time constraints associated with your visit.

  • Pricing for private group visits varies based on the type of organization that is visiting. For most visitors, our standard $20 per person ticket price applies ($300 group minimum). We offer specialized pricing for K - University groups, in order to ensure that young people have access to our space. If your group is in need of financial assistance, please share your specific needs in the group visit request form.

  • We always encourage groups who are visiting Durham to explore all the amazing historical and cultural opportunities the city has to offer. Discover Durham offers this free African American Heritage Guide with many sites of significance.

  • We understand that plans can change, and we kindly ask that you notify us as soon as possible if you need to cancel or modify your booking. If you cancel at least 14 days in advance, you'll receive a full refund. Cancellations made within 7 days of your scheduled tour are eligible for a 50% refund. No refunds can be offered for Saturday tours, due to the high demand of Saturday reservations.

    Requests to change the date or time of a confirmed booking are subject to staff availability and are not guaranteed. One complementary rescheduling request made at least 14 days prior to the scheduled program may be accommodated at no cost. Subsequent requests to reschedule will incur a $50 administrative fee.
