Visit Us

The historic Fitzgerald House, Pauli Murray’s childhood home, and the Pauli Murray Center Welcome Center are currently under construction and not yet ready for visitors. We’re working hard to preserve our historic structures and install innovative and engaging exhibits inside them.

While we work on that, we welcome visitors to the site to explore a small outdoor exhibit about the Rev. Dr. Murray and new technology on the side of the future Welcome Center building.

Explore New Technology at the PMC Site!

On the side of the future Welcome Center building, you will find a mural depicting the future Welcome Center Porch, designed by Perkins & Will. Using a smartphone, you can interact with the mural to access multimedia offerings about the Rev. Dr. Murray and the future Pauli Murray Center site. The map below shows the content you can access on the mural.

How to Use NFC Tags

This technology is called near field communication. It allows you to touch your smartphone to a tag and the tag will transmit a website address immediately to your phone.

For iPhone XS or later, all you have to do is hold the back of your phone to the tag where it says “tap your phone now.” A notification will pop up on your phone within a couple seconds inviting you to open a website. Clicking that will take you to the information indicated on the tag.

Most Android phones have NFC, but it might need to be enabled. Open “settings,” then click “connected devices,” then “connection preferences” and you should see “NFC.” Turn the toggle on, and then you can proceed to hold the back of your phone up to the sensors on the mural until you receive a notification.

Different phones connect to NFC tags from different locations on the phone. You might need to play around a bit with the angle to find where the sensor is on your phone.
