July Newsletter: A Note from a Member of Our Board

"America at 250 Requires Pauli Murray's Courage." Give today!

We find ourselves at a remarkable crossroads.  We have reached the exact midpoint of the year, a natural moment to pause and look at how far we have come --- and how far we must go.  This midyear is more significant because we stand in the eve of "America 250," the upcoming 250th anniversary of this nation's founding.  As I look toward this exciting milestone, I find myself reflecting on the legacy of my aunt, Rev. Dr. Pauli Murray.  As America approaches this milestone, we should look to her wisdom.  She taught us that true freedom is an ongoing project.  She taught us love, acceptance, hope, faith, and perseverance.  Your midyear gift ensures that the Pauli Murray Center remains a cultural and educational center to honor her and a laboratory for the justice she spent her life defining.

Aunt Pauli did not wait for history to change; she changed it.  On the eve of "America 250," help the PMC honor her legacy by investing in the community work that brings her vision of an inclusive society to life.  "America's 250th anniversary is not just a celebration of the past," but a commitment to the future.  Join the Center in carrying forward her unfinished work of "building a community where everyone belongs."

My aunt believed deeply in America's promise, even when that promise excluded her.  This midyear your generous donation will help our Center preserve the stories of those who like Aunt Pauli, fought to make this nation live up to its highest ideals.  True patriotism means doing the work of justice...locally in our neighborhood and beyond!  She taught us that hope is "a song in a weary throat."  Be the melody of that hope today.  Your contribution directly funds programs that keep her spirit of resilient activism alive.

We are at a historic crossroad during these challenging times.  Midyear 2026 places us on the direct doorstep of America 250.  Lets not just mark this moment with passive reflection, but mark it with active generosity in the spirit of Rev. Dr. Pauli Murray.  History is not just what we read in textbooks, it is alive in the Pauli Murray Center.  Help us continue to anchor the legacy of my aunt into the next 250 years of the American story by giving generously today in her honor.
